    Carolina E. Santo

Set and costume designer for the performing arts since 2000, Carolina E. Santo obtained a Master's degree in Set Design from the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) in 2009. In parallel to her artistic activity, she continued her studies and defended her doctoral thesis in scenography entitled: "Geoscenography. Scenography from the milieu of Development-forced Displacement and Resettlement" at the University of Vienna (Austria).

Today, her practice and her research feed each other in a dynamic of reciprocity. The concept of geoscenography developed in her doctoral thesis has allowed her to define a contextual artistic practice articulated by theatricality and performativity; nourished by a philosophical reflection on the notions of space, place and territory. In this research-creation, the aesthetic experience participates in an alternative production of knowledge; and the creative processes superimpose scenaristic stages whose wefts appear simultaneously in the final work like a palimpsest. Thus, the practice of the field responds to a previously defined dramaturgy aiming to produce a poetic and political experience of the place. An experience that in turn shapes the plastic work.

As an artist and researcher, her process assumes itself as an experimental laboratory whose final form remains in dialogue with the context and the conceptual purpose. Geoscenography expresses itself in and out of the theater. In the city and through the world.
