Everything you need to know about competitive entry and becoming a student at Manufacture!

This page provides information regarding admission requirements and registration forms for each degree course, as well as regulations governing admissions and studies at Manufacture.

In 2020, there will be an entrance exam for the Bachelor in Contemporary Dance and for the Master in Theater. For the Master, it will be possible to chose betwin an orientation in Stage Direction or Scenography.
The start of the 2020 academic year will be on September 2020.

The registration forms for Bachelor in Contemporary Dance and Master in Theatre will be available in November.

Warning, there won't be any entrance exam for the Bachelor in Theatre in 2020! Thereby, it won't be possible to start in september 2020. The next entrance exam will take place in 2021.

Bachelor in Contemporary Dance

Admission to the Bachelor in Contemporary Dance results of a two-round competitive audition that held in spring, two times every three years. The next one will be held in 2020 and 2021.

Registrations

Registrations will be open in November 2019. 

The deadline for file submission is February 14th 2020.

The 1st round will take place : 

- in Bruxelles, from 4 to 7 March 2020

- in Lausanne, from 11 to 14 March 2020

The candidates, selected at the end of the 1st round will be invited to participate in the workshop of the 2nd round which will take place from May 26th to May 29th 2020 at La Manufacture.

Bachelor in Theatre

Admission to the Bachelor in Theatre results of a two-round competitive audition held twice every three years. 


There won't be any auditions in 2020. Thereby it won't be possible to start the program at the 2020-2021 academic year.

Master in Theatre

Admission to the Master in Theatre, orientation in Stage Direction or Scenography, results of a competitive audition held every year in spring.

The registration will open in November 2019. 

The deadline for file submission is March 6th 2020.

The interviews and practical tests will take place at The Manufacture :

  • from 4 to 8 May 2020 for Scenography
  • from 11 to 15 May for Stage direction 


 

FAQ (Frequently asked questions)

1. What is the minimum/maximum age to apply to the audition of La Manufacture?

     There is no limit of age. But you need to be 18 before the opening of the academic year (mid-September). 

2. Could I audition through videos? 

    For the Bachelors and Masters programs, it is not possible to audition via video. Your physical presence is mandatory.

For the Bachelor’s degree in Contemporary dance, there is only one exception: If you are living outside the Schengen area, and only then it is possible to audition through videos – but only for the first round of the audition and with the permission of the head of the Bachelor program M. Gabriel Shenker. He will He will send you the procedures and requirements to submit the videos. If you are selected after the first round, you’ll need to participate in person for the second round that will take place in Lausanne. 


3. How many time could I apply to the auditions of La Manufacture? 

If she/he’s not selected after an audition, a candidate could apply two times more for a total of 3 times. The delay between to attempts is of one year. 


4. What is the official language of work at La Manufacture? 

La Manufacture is located in the French speaking part of Switzerland (Romandie). Therefore, the main language of life and work at La Manufacture is French. A solid knowledge of French is specifically required for the Master and Bachelor degrees in Theater. In the Bachelor in Dance, the classes and workshops are given in French and/or English. Strong basics in both languages are needed. 


5. When will the selected candidates be notified of the results? 

For both Theater and Dance Bachelors auditions the selected candidates will be notified in person at the end of the last day of the second round of the audition. A written confirmation will be sent by email within the following week. 

For the Master in Theater, selected candidates will be receiving a written confirmation by email within the first week after the audition. 


6. Does La Manufacture directly manage grants? 

La Manufacture itself does not attribute scholarships. Though a subsidiary grant might be given by the Association des Artisans, attached to our school. Applications open early October. 



7. Is it possible to have a student job while studying at La Manufacture? 

All courses are to be followed full-time. It is therefore possible to work outside the official schedule, at night, during the weekends and/or the holidays. Though, we underline that the general sustained pace of the studies and the complementary schoolwork expected makes it quite difficult to hold. 


Because of the high cost of living in Switzerland, please note that a student job only will not be sufficient to cover for all your expenses.
