Researchers Maria Da Silva and Nicolas Dutour will share the results of the first stage of their "Theater and Landscape" research in the form of a collective nocturnal vigil, during the inauguration of Malley en quartiers.
Théâtre et Paysage is a research-creation project outside the walls and in situ that proposes to work from the landscape artist's method as a source of potential dramaturgies. The study site is a wasteland in the Malley district near La Manufacture.
This site is for the two artist-researchers a place on the fringe, indecisive, abandoned, ephemeral but with a great diversity of life forms. For one year, from the spring of 2020 to the spring of 2021, they will test various protocols for sampling the sensitive and the real in order to read and interpret the urban landscape in all its components (vegetal, architectural, sound, human, user, ritual, climatic...).
The inauguration of Malley en quartiers, which will take place from October 2 to 4, 2020 on the site, is a research project conducted by the Institute of Humanities in Medicine CHUV-UNIL. It develops a heritage reflection on the footprint left by the last public slaughterhouses of the City of Lausanne, closed in 2002, and the stakes of meat consumption from the post-war period to the present day.
On the night of Saturday, October 3, from sunset to dawn, Maria Da Silva and Nicolas Dutour propose us to explore the site:
"When the day workers left the slaughterhouses, what happened at night? And if we imagine that watchmen take over, that they stay awake all night to watch and take care of this apparently sleepy place. They arrive just before sunset and leave in the early morning. During this time, how do they keep their eyes open? »
Based on these questions, they invite us to a collective vigil to awaken the spirit of the place and experience a night on today's wasteland.
