Performing Arts / Ecology: Affects at work

Led by a team of seven researchers and artist-researchers specialized in arts, philosophy and/or the environmental field, the AVETA project aims to examine the reciprocal effects of influence and transformation between: the context of ecological crises; the affects that these crises - and the environmental, social and mental mutations they entail - may give rise to or call forth; the field of contemporary performing arts.

How does concern for ecology (as a scientific fact, but also as a political, cultural or philosophical horizon) affect the ways in which works are conceived, performed and received? What do the forms, places and practices of live performance give us to perceive about the multiple realities and thoughts of ecology? To what extent do they reinforce or modify the feelings associated with them? What ecological mobilizations and attachments are the performing arts the fruit of and/or the vector for?

To answer these questions, the team has chosen to focus on a limited field of study - theatrical and choreographic programming in French-speaking Switzerland since 2019 - and to continuously articulate aesthetic analyses, theoretical approaches, field surveys and research-creation.
